Hello guys,

Although these arent really Australian themed, they were all taken on Ausiie day. I took some advice about shooting in RAW for the night shots and correcting WB etc in PS CS. Would appreciate your comments on how these have turned out.

Where was the last shot taken from? What EXIF info? I assume the standard 18-70 lens? I dunno, your shots have so much clarity All pretty damn good shots IMO... I love shot #1, #4, #5, #6.

The tiny colour mismatch in the very top right corner of shots #1 and #3 is the first thing I notice though, I assume thats the bridge just getting in the frame? #6 needs to be addressed, I would photoshop out that light in the top right corner, it looks a little wrong.

Shot 1 for me... Its tempting to just PS out the cable... spooky alien sphere attacks sydney!

The last shot was taken on the bridge on the way back to CBD. ALl are on the kit lens. THe exposure was 1.6secs at f4.5. Didnt have a tgripod so couldnt open for any longer than that and the traffic on the bridge causes it to shake a lot.

No, im not sure what that is. I think its some sort of vignetting from the lens. It doesnt happen at 70mm, but at 18 i get that in the top right hand corner every time.

yes, it's vignetting, and and yes, wide open, the kit lens is a little prone to this.

A couple of questions - are you using the supplied lenshood, and if so - please don't take this the wrong way - are you sure you have it mounted correctly? There have been instances of the hood not being fully or correctly mounted, and in either case that can add to the problem of vignetting. It needs to be firmly clicked into place, with the shorter of the petals aligned with the horizontal plane.

Also, what filter(s) did you have mounted on the lens when you took these images? Any mounted filters will add to the leading edge of the lens, and if you're already on the borderline, that might just be enough to throw you over and into vignette territory.

If you have stacked filters - say a UV + CPL - than this problem will be exacerbated; so it's probably best to just use the one fillter at any one time.

In case it wasn't obvious, you're not the first person that's failed to do this, and I doubt you're going to be the last.

The force that it seems as though you're applying feels kind of like you're going to break something, but you won't; wait until you add the extra battery holder onto the SB800.

I especially like the shot from under the bridge where it curves across the frame. Very good.

That's my favourite, too. It's not the stereotyped image of the Bridge we're all used to. The shots confirm what a beautiful city Sydney is.

Put me down for the "under the bridge" shot too, a refreshingly different viewpoint of something we're all familiar with, well done for putting a new view on it, really like the color and detail under the bridge too. Did you do much in PP for the detail under the bridge?

Mudder, the only post I've done on the bridge shot is levels enhancement and boosted the saturation slightly.

I had to take quite a few to get the right contrast between the bridge detail and the sky correct. Most were coming out with the sky completely burnt out.

Matt, a great collection of images, especially like the "under the bridge shot" and the night shots are great as well.

At least your battery was fully charged, I took mine to the beach and after about 6 shots the batteries died.....talk about feel stupid.........so no great images and a raging sunburn - I think I might be the bigger dumbass
