I am particularly fond of shots like the gum - all twisted and gnarly with great texture. The pano - wow. Great shot(s). I'm guessing you used autostitch. Very impressive. Must try this myself sometime. Who needs a tripod & one of those expensive ball heads

Yep Stubbsy - Autostitch did it for me this time...
Personally I think that the key is to have a high degree of overlap between the photos (30%) and to keep the horizon level for all photos...
It's a shame that the sky wasn't a little bluer, but them's the breaks...

Tops shots leek i am a sucker for panos, so yeh did a good job with it, blue shies for me becomes a prob at times and colour change sometimes is a pain to fix, but well done.

Nice shot indeed John, I'm not familiar with pano's at all really, but I think you've done a great job. What kind of tripod r u using for this kind of shot? I'd be interested to learn more. We don't live far away, perhaps you could teach me a thing or two some time in the near future?

For this pano I didn't use any tripod or other special equipment... I took 17 separate photos hand-held (in portrait orientation), trying hard to keep the horizon / coastline aligned with one of the D70's gridlines... I tried to get a minimum of 30% overlap between the photos...
Autostitch software did the rest...

G'day,
Really like the gnarled old gum tree, they can have such a sense of timelessness (is that a word?) and history about them, they always catch my attention.
The pano is terrific! hand-held makes it even more impressive... Pano's are addictive aren't they? Autostitch is pretty spiffy huh??? How did it go for memory usage etc? I find when I'm using it (on a 2.6G P4 with 1Gb of RAM) that every bit of ram gets gobbled up... No input and away it goes...
