Hi guys,

I'm trying to hone my night photography skills so woulod appreciate critiscim on this. It was taken in Melbourne and is only one of a handful of shots I have taken in RAW.
I really like the road in the image. it seems very clean to me.

welcome to melbounre.
i think you have too much empty road prehaps cropping it out. if you were looking to photography the hyatt more mabe try a different angle. maybe in front of the lobby?
it just seems to me that your not sure on weather to shoot the building in front of the hyatt or the hyatt it self.
maybe a landscape shot of the street would be nice.
anyway i use to love night photography i honesty wouldn't roam the street at night by myself with a camera so i gave it up.

I'm not sure I agree with cropping out the empty road. It adds something, or it balances the two buildings out. I would like to see a closer steeper, interesting angle. It might be a good one to try and make the viewer feel like he's going to tip over.

Matt - very nice pic and the only comment I would make is to clone out the leaves at the top right as they are a little distracting IMO

I think if you crop just enough from the bottom to exclude the manhole in the road that will increase focus on the highett as the manhole seems distracting. Keep the road and the blurred traffic as that's a part of the scene, but I'd try cloning out the leaves on the top right...

I agree, I look at it and am not sure where the focus lies.

I will crop out the leaves on the top right as well because its damm distracting.

The compasition definately needs work but it was the technical aspect of the shot i was worried about.

Hi,

I think it is a great photo.
some of MY suggestions:

have a little less road in the photo and avoid moving cars.
i.e take a shot (if possible) when no car is driving by.
