CD - overall a well caught collection of pics

Just a wee bit of critique which under the circumstances of shooting probably could not be helped:

6/8 - great capture
7/8 - great capture
8/8 - great capture but too many distractions
5/8 - would have been better with head in shot
4/8 - great shot except for the person in the background
3/8 - great shot
2/8 - great shot but would suggest cloning out the pole through the guys head!
1/8 - great capture but would clone out the pole again also would have been a little better to have the whole of the guys head and left hand in shot

Would probably helped to use a f/4 or similar to give less DOF

#2, #3 and #6 in particular are great timed catches, out of curiosity what focus settings (continuous or single etc)?

Also, did you use any flash? Just wondering as the shadows don't seem as strong or harsh as I would have expected them to be, I reckon I would have had trouble getting the clarity on some of the facial expressions you've achieved.

I assume a larger aperture would have resulted in a faster shutter and frozen the action more, but they look really sharp to me...

Excellent attempt for your first go... well done.

One suggestion for next time woudl try getting up on top of the ramp and then you ca get a shot looking across the ramp which should get rid of any background issues (poles etc...)

Gives a good perspective from on top of the ramp (that is if there is a big enough lip there).

Hi Mudder,

I didn't use any flash. (I couldn't bear the thought of blinding one of these acrobats and see them drop onto the concrete)
It was about 3pm in the afternoon and the sun was above and very slightly behind me.
I used autofocus S and also manually pre-focussed.

i would like to see some fo these shots with slower shutters, or else try panning some of these shots. These shots are screaming for some blurriness to show that the subjects were actually moving quickly...

just my opinion,

nice shots tho regardless
