I tried with this shot to concentrate the focus on the wine glasses and used the bushes as a frame to the outside world. Comments most welcome.

Nice shot Chris and I really like the idea, which to me just fails to come off. I would personaly like to have seen the whole table a little closer. The bushes could still have been used as a frame only behind the table, if you get what I mean. Have to admit that I like it though, brings back nice memories of the Southern Vales.

i think i understand what u r trying to achieve, the foreground shrubs do frame the photo, but the wine glass is lost in the background. evidently the white wine is reflecting the background colour/scene. maybe red wine would have been a better choice. also the orange 'napkin' spoils the photo. BTW was the wine particularly good?

OK your wish is my command. I have cropped the pic and added some White Shiraz into the pic.

Chris, I like this shot, but for some reason I keep looking at the right hand side and try to make out what it is. There's just enough detail in there to do that, maybe if it was a little clearer my eyes wouldn't keep going there. The photo does convey the country feeling though.

I prefer the original.

Nice shot Chris, nice and sharp. THe only thing I find distracting is the dark area on the right. It's overpowering the table. IMO.

And as I'm posting you've just changed the colour of the wine. Man gotta love this internet.

Now that you've got my attention... Really like the idea, same as the others the "thing" on the right hand side takes my eye away from the subject... It's not a folded umbrella is it??? Hmmm, now the reds look like a claret or cordial based pinoit mmmmmm, wine...... yum.......

Great subject and nicely portrayed...

My last attempt - starighten the photo according to the table, removed right hand side and added a deeper red wine:

Chris at this rate you'll end up with just the wine.
I still prefer the original, it seems to be more balanced. I like the frame on this last one though.

Chris I really have to complain now, the first image got me intrigued, the second cropped version might have been a little heavyily cropped, but darn it all man, I thought that I had had too many glasses when the crisp white changed to a fulll bodied red!

Perhaps if the camera was just a touch higher, so that the glasses were backgrounded by the grass, I think they would stand out more

Must agree with mchampio, for the glasses to the the focus for the viewer, they really need to contrast better with their background - to make them more ........obvious? The technicalities of this shot are perfect. Sharp and crisp focus on the main subject but they are lost in translation if you get my drift. First image ok, final image is the best presented and easiest of the three to look at.

being an ex Kraut, I can be pretty blunt and quite inconsiderate.
I hope my critique is not going to offend you, my intention is definately not that way !

What is it you are trying to photograph ?
I would like to see the wine glasses being the object of attention.
The size and position amongst other things doesn't
draw attention to the wine glasses also there is another object on the table.
I also think that the back ground as it is doesn't go well with the glasses.
It needs to have much more bokeh (blurriness) also the green doesn't work.
The shrub on the right hand side is a very dark something.
I feel, the whole composition is not working.

I would crop the glasses, wouldn't consider the shrubs (frames) and change the wine in the glasses. (red, rather than green)

I appreciate your remarks CD - BTW I did a year of military strategy at London Uni back in the 60’s and my subect was the Waffen SS

Thanks to SoCal Steve who emailed me a copy of my pic with some blur to the background to which I have added some more Gaussian Blur.

The final

Much better. The blur has really bought the glasses out of the background.
The change to a green border has helped as well.

I normally like most subjects sharp in a foto - however this has really allowed the wine glasses to stand out, I quite like the effect & the light passing through the wine liquid has a somewhat energetic effect.

Just to butt in because, well, I can I prefer the last one. As I was reading the posts I echoed the thoughts of mchampio - much better. Part of me likes it as it is, and part of me would like to see it with the glasses evenly filled. I still like it as it is though.

Man this is hard after a few drinks - seems like I typed three times this number of words... Well, I did, but it'd be impolite to suggest that that was the reason...
