This is perhaps my best Image from the D 70 so far. I shot this after having the camera for about a month. ISO 200 f/18 1/100th on APP priority mode. with trusty (rusty) tripod.I added some saturation - nothing else. I fluked the rest. I was actually shooting in the exact opposite direction for 10 min. beforehand at a sandstone cliff when my partner told me i was all about the wrong way! I'm glad she was my eyes- in- back- of -head! Def. have this image download thing sorted now- thanks all that taught me - now you can't get rid of me!!

that's a cracker of a shot.

The problem is it looks so good it looks like it has been PPed.

Print it out and frame it I say.

WOW, that really is a great shot. Well done. The lower billowing cumulus? clouds look great offset by the high cirrus clouds.

What an awsome shot ! Reminds me of the Cook Islands.

How I wish I could go back there and take my D70

I agree with those before me but would like to add that the clouds are what take this from a mundane beach scene into another realm - excellent

And they say photography is a bit of a solitary pursuit! Well done to the two of you.

Sometimes it does help having someone else there to see things differently.

Put a nikon sticker on your partner and take her with you everywhere. Better value then any VR lens I'd say

Good capture and take those other eyes with you more often. LOL

Very nice shot!

Well thanks everyone for all of your feedback and comments. Especially about my partner Susan who has got to be the worlds greatest non- practising artist! On our trip to N.Z. last Autumn Sue took only three shots with my Sony camera (DSC F717) - all three in this catergory, all three I didn't see for driving reasons but mostly because I'm me and she is she!

xerubus - edit away with abandon! I'm always keen to so what skills and concepts others can apply.

boxerboy - It's the main beach at Aireys Inlet, Great Ocean Road, Victoria. My partner is fortunate enough to own a new holiday house / renatl prop down there. We live only 40 min. from the coast so photog. down there is good for me!

At first site, the sand-dune in the centre of the pic looked a little like a wave breaking... A higher res version might help me appreciate the full beauty of the pic...

I used to live on the other side of the bay, at Cape Paterson. People don't realise how good the surf beaches are in Victoria - just too cold to swim most of the time!

okay.... all i have done here is fix up the levels, increased shadows and highlights, and applied a very opaque provia mask to help bring out the colour and detail of the rock...... would be interested to see the results on the full res image.

Stunning photo Matty B. I thought Queensland had the monopoly on good beach shots but the windswept southern coastlines give such dramatic vistas. You've really captured that wildness here.

Xerebus: nice bit of touch-up work. Highlighted the best of MattyB's original.

2. Enlarge as big as possible (was it taken in RAW or jpeg?)
3. Better without blue border
4. QLD is not what it's cracked up to be - NSW VIC TAS beaches leave it for dead, IMVHO!

Xerubus, your work on just an email sized file does wonders! I'd really like to know how to ue the Provia / Velvia curves many are talking about. It gives a magnificent illumination to the scene. Your knowledge and skills are something for me to aspire to - I'm still fluking shots like this.

To those who advise print and flog, I've sold two A3 prints already and have given several to family / friends who wish me well. I won a 2nd prize in local Art Show with this one (chuff - Chuff!)

Oximax, Having not seen W.A. beaches nor N.T. I'd rate Tasmanian beaches and coastline as the supreme photogenic coast in this nation. kangaroo island and surrounds comes second. The ocean Road is a ripper but over developed and breaks my heart to see it go under the develper's brick and slab.
