In New York i produced my own fashion editorial shoot with a new team i built in NY
no magazine pays for fashion editorial shoots unless your top 5% in the industry so for the rest of us aspiring phogs we need to produce our own work
concept was a high fashion standoff, shot on top of a building in NY
1
model had angular constrained outfit with matching hair and makeup concept and ther other had a freeflowing dress, the story shows their high fashion standoff literally
all shot in available light with some strobe assitance hard light on some shots
the rest is post production aimed for a yellowish golden tone for a more surreal look
it got accepted into BLiNK mag
rest of story here:

congrats to my hot NY team
Concept, Logistics, Production, Post production: Me @ The Nest Agency
Stylist: Ope

Makeup: Lauren Kuzas
Assisted by: Shu Vua

Very fine indeed. Well done.
Do you get paid by Blink or is it just to get your name in the circle? (once you got accepted - up until then, self funded...?)

hi Heath
all my work is self funded for fashion editorial you do it for prestige get your name in mag
you only get paid if your top 5% of togs in the world thats the harsh truth
but id rather shoot fashion editorial than some boring commercial job that pays my headspace is somewhere else

Glad to hear you had a good time in NY.
I guess you have to do what you enjoy. Seeing good results is a nice payoff though!

Wendell, all 4 are great, but the last one is a stand out. Your mix of hard, cool light with softer ambient, and the poses make this an awesome shot taht could be seen on a very large billboard. Well done.

Hi Wendell,
Good work... its the hardest city in the world to make things happen and so it is good to see you taking an initiative. Out of curiosity, what are you using for your lighting there (I'm guessing Profoto packs) and are you renting them there?
Cheers, Ants

hi ants thankyou
i usually use ProFoto but only in Australia where i can rent them
in the US rent equals paying for the total cost of the lights as a deposit that's about US$2000
so i rented these crappy alien Bees strobe kit i got from some cheap rental place just 1 naked with no light shaping
modifiers its about 600 watts pumped out there under direct sunlight
for the last shot its at 1/4 power
your right NYC is full of pretenders it was hard to find a reliable and capable team as pasionate as i was.
i still have a hot team in NY so next time im there well do more stuff

More brilliance from you Wendell, outstanding.
I love the silly walk on the

(also my fave just ahead of #4)

Wendell,
#4 is probably the best work that I've seen from you. The background, the combination of the harsh lighting, the shadows (including on the background and the ground) and the slight oversharpening all combine to to make this image work.
Well done.

#4 is truly masterful. Congratulations Wendell.
(And the others are great too!)

Wendell I am always amazed by your work. I generally don't post up because I really don't want to sound like the proverbial broken record!
I'd love to see some of the original shots before the post work was done, the photos always just pop and look fabulous.
Not only am I in absolute awe of your production and direction, choosing the right team, location and so forth but you ability to tie everything together to make the end result just stunning!
If I had but a 10th of your talent and dedication I'd be a happy happy person!
Well done!

hi thanks everyone much appreciated
i feel like a producer but that's what you have to do to make a name for yourslef in this crazy industry, my aim is to be represented by an agency who will take care of all production and i just rock up and do my thing
my current agency just represents me by name but does nothing to help me with my projects
i dont mind sharing my original pics so long as people remember post prodction to me is just a tool to realise or polish off my final vision
i don't rely on it, and i consider it only about 10% of my image making process
original shot shoot dark strobe fills foreground sunject, sometimes i fix the background tone to match foreground otherwise i like my dark backgrounds
under direct sunlight
the alien bees strobe kit i used with pocket wizard, bulb with reflector naked set at full power 600 watts under the sun
light setup in the afternoon 1 sb800 for fill other key light at 1/4 power
