cliched baby photos

This is the first time I have taken baby shots, so please bear with me! Friends of ours just had their first child, so what better excuse than to visit them and take the camera along
This was also the first real workout I gave my new 85/1.4 - Lovely lens indeed, but tricky to work with. At wide apertures the depth of field is INCREDIBLY narrow. In a couple of these I really should have cranked it up to 2.8, maybe 3.5, but I was keen to make use of muted natural light courtesy of the window as much as possible. Apertures varied between 1.4 and 2.0 mostly.
Any suggestions from experienced baby photographers? It's damn hard to give a 2-week old any direction... She just does what she feels like
If I get another go at it, I might do something with lighting, backgrounds etc....
