Went down to Cronulla last night and thought I'd try some long exposures and a little painting. I think the results are OK but think there needs to be more interest in the sky. Am I wrong or do I need to go just before Dawn?

First two are at Shelley beach where there was this strong Incandescent? orange light and third is just around the corner at Sandshoes pool.

Absolutely Love the second - the clouds are great, the ?steam?mist?spray? at the pool's edge looks like fire, and the milky movement of water in the foreground really works for a wonderful (and well-balanced)shot!

The first one is a nice view, but I don't think the orange colour works (hardly your fault though!); and in the third, the foreground dominates a bit too much in its brightness, in my opinion.

#1 suffers from uninteresting foreground syndrome IMHO.

#2 I think you've overlit the foreground, but a square crop from the top could recover this (by removing the bright bottom)

#3 is awesome. Great colour contrast top to bottom and wonderfully moody. The pick of the 3

Thanks for the feedback, I like the third as well, I've toned down a few of the highlights in the foreground..

Here is a bit of a crop based on Stubbsy' suggestion, Has it improved the image? I tried a squarer crop but wasnt happy. I also played just a bit with the foreground colour. I'm probably the only one to notice it but I like the way the rail now leads to the lighthouse opposite. (yes that speck is a lighthouse)

The spray is actually waves crashing in over the pool, it was a 6 second exposure.

The third is the pick for me.
However ALL the images are great in that they use the railing effectively to draw you into the image... top stuff..

I prefer the originsl
There is a sense of weight?? doom?? loneliness?? anticipation??
that is missing for me in the crop.

But for my money #1
