Nice shots, what lens and EXIF data did u shoot these shots under? There appears to be a fairbit of highlights in both the shots, is this what you were trying to get, it is quite arty but perhaps a bit TOO much for my liking. Would really like to know what PP u did on the photos too. Cheers matey,

Hi Geoff,

Both image shoot with sigma 20mm f1.8. Yep, highlights are blown. I spot metered on the couple. I prefer the natural light photography...so never us a flash unless if it is absolutely required. As for PP...played with curves and also increase contrast and guarsson blur.

Like that also Vince, though might be a bit oversharpened by looking at his beard on the left hand side. How do you like your 20mm 1.8? Is it sharp?

The print is just right....

the sigma 20mm F1.8 is great...wide open it is a little soft but I rather have the speed to capture the image. For the price and speed it is a great buy.

The black and whites are very classy images. There is some talent there. I like the accent on the whiskers....not too sharp for me.

Tell me, what Black and White PP technique do you use?
I love the blown highlight look. It's really a modern feel which I love. There has been a big trend towards this type of wedding shoot adn the black and whites. People dont tend to want the standard ole routine. I guess because everyone nowadays has a digital camera, and they all have their own style, they tend to want to see cool stuff and something which is a break from the norm. Vince, you have both of them.

As said with you many times at my place, I always prefer to shoot with the "dead" flash, I love natural light and fast prime glass.
The flash in wedding or other ceremony/ events caused lot of "havoc" for your taken of the day. Reception or outdoor, of course you'll need flash or other sources to support lighting as fill flash, otherwise commit yourself to fast glasses if you can (17-55Dx, 70-200VR, 85/1.4, 50/1.4, 28/1.4) or something similar with other brands, I know they're in all your dream but think about your investment if you wish to get into that winding road.

Hi Birddog...totally agree. Thanks fo rall the word of wisdom at your place. At the moment, I am fine with the lens I have...my next purchase will be the 17-55mm f2.8. I will giv eyou a call when the time comes. At the moment I use mainly primes to shoot my weddings, my partner uses a zoom. I love foot zooming

Wow! Shutterbug, you are a very accomplished wedding photog.

There is something that bothers me about the very first picture pair, though. The one on the left makes them look like they are not square on the page even though I know the really are.

It just distracts me from their beauty. Nice use of the bridge, too.

Vince - you have taken your imaging past the every day type weddding photography into another realm and your B&Ws are great

They are great photos Vincent. Well done. They have now provided some inspiration to this novice wedding photographer. I hope i can manage to get shots that good.

I do agree that the colour pics are very much what is in style these days. So long as the newlyweds are pleased with the results then that's all that matters. Keep the client happy.

are there any particular moments in each wedding that you feel like you have to get. Any particular times where faciail expressions are their most unique? Certain moments that you perch and wait for? Particular people you try and photo besides bride and groom? Thanks for posting.

It all comes down to experience......I usually focus on the birde & groom and also the bridal party and parents. People expressions are usually captured best when they do not know you are capturing the image. I mainly use prime lens to capture natural light and tele outside.
