Took a few hours out to York (UK) this afternoon, just for a break from it all. Was pretty rushed, trying to get a few photos of different locations while the sun was low and warm.

Just thought I'd share.

I like the second, "yorkminster.jpg," and the fourth, "york-cliffordstower.jpg," the most.

I can't really give any advice suffice to say that each of these shots actually do the subject quite a lot of justice, especially that second image of the cathedral... what is that, High Gothic? It's a gorgeous shot that allows the eye to take advantage of all the elements that make Gothic cathedrals wonderful to look at.

OMG the memories come flooding back.

Your photos have induced an emotional response in me which means they must be good

Amazing how the restoration has suceeded in cleaning the brickwork on the Minster. It positively glows now. When i was in York last the whole thing was surrounded in scaffolding and the masonry was greenish.

It's a pit we can't go back in time as i would love to photograph the Minster back in it's heydays in the 1500-1600. Or even go back 2000 years and see York swarming with Italian Tourists (Romans).

York is such an amazing place, such a rich history that goes back over two millenia and you've captured it well.

(And of course it's the capital of Yorkshire so it has a lot going for it )

Siborg - terrific shots. You've really made the kit lens 'sing'. Proof also that it's not always miserable and overcast in the North

I love the second photo showing the York Minster soaring into the sky. It triggers some great memories for me. Proposed to the better half not far from there and she accepted!

The photo captures what the builders of the church were trying to do - create a monument stretching up in worship to their God. There's a story I like about building a church like this in which they describe it as a "heaven tree" rooted on the earth but stretching/soaring upward.
