Basketball and shadows

I took several pics of these guys, many getting the ball in midair and exposing the sky better, but something I like about this one.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I agree - I just looked and looked. I like it too and would not want to point out any problems with it because it has held my attention.

Well done

Same here, only I think I realise what I was looking for was the ball on it's way into the basket.
This is a real moody shot, great lighting.

THESE are the ambleside courts. Amazing that in one place kids are playing basketball,20 minutes away they are snowboarding. Unique town when you think about it.

Don't quite let this one - it's neither one thing nor the other to me.

I think I would like it more if there was a tighter crop around the players.

I also think the hot spot in the sky detracts.

But, the subject matter is worth pursuing.

The cropping seemed like a pretty good idea. I think I did some other things to it as well but I can't remember what. Does this work better? The second one focuses more on the subject, the first one more on the scene. Wow, I can't believe how different this one looks compared to my computer. Once on the internet it looks quite bland.

Have a look at this thread I created a while back. Your problem may be the one I had & fixed.

Edit: Ooops. Dooda, just noticed you've been there before!

Yes, I think the tighter look improves it significantly dooda.

Dave - another viewpoint - I actually still prefer the original as it has the space around to show the isolation of the action within the frame and the loneliness of the location

Yes I remember it. But I suck at doing searches and would never have found it. Also thinking back to the solution, I don't think I had a single clue as to what you guys were talking about. I'll go back now and have a tinker.

I like the original much better - more space and mood and much more original than the cropped version, which has more of a "same old" feel for me.

The first version immediately grabbed my attention.
