Production Sports Enduro pics

Hello all, some pics in a new (for me, not for Dirk Klynsmith ;)) style from today's Production Sports Enduro at Oran Park. What do you think? Please feel free to say that they're crap if you think they're crap! :)

there's too much blur going on, if you all the blur going on but one portion of the car isolated like the driver or something, might have looked better.

The last pic is tops tho

i think they look fantastic. the standard racing car photos are a dime a dozen and you've done something very different, creative and interesting with a pretty common theme.

i love them personally.

At first look they made me dizzy, but that could just be the headache I already have.

Second look, #2 shows the most potential. The mirror on the car seems to not be blurred which gives a point of focus. If you could achieve making that the cars number or drivers head (assuming it's visible through the screen) I think you'd have a real winner.

Having said that I don't think you'd want to take a lot of shots in this style, more one or two to mix it up.

hey mate,

Good to see you coming to the blurry crappy darkside :lol: :P

I know how hard it is to get these images, with super slow shutter speeds and good panning technique. I like them, like Rooz said, they are something different from the norm. I might be tempted to brighten and add some more contrast, but then, thats what I like.

I see Klynsmith trying to get these sort of shots all the time. I think he's copying me.... :wink: :roll:

First image is the strongest for me.

Is the blur intentional? I mean, did you add the blur to create action and the illusion of speed? If so, I would edit the image with less blur.

zafra52 this is all in camera, slow shutter speed panning with a wide angle lens as Alan says. Personally I think this style is very 'arty' and useful in terms of art and colour for publications but not really for capturing the 'decisive moments' of motorsport. As a photographer who strives to do exactly that my personal view is that this style is crap, but thought I'd give it a go and walk a mile in someone else's shoes etc. I think dawesy is right on the money when he says it's good for a few shots, but you wouldn't want a whole heap of them.

The first is definitely the best of those, the third car would have worked the best though with the circle on the door. I understand that this is becoming just another one of the ways motorsport is portrayed, and sadly to say whilst not the most decisive of ways to shoot, it is becoming more popular with the magazines...

Fourth is good, great angle, not often do you get to get on level or below the car to take the shot, love the look of the tyre about to leave a ripple!

just in case you wante to edit the pictures and have less blur, but they are your babies and if you are happy with them it is fine by me.

No offence taken. Sorry, I should have used another paragraph to make my intentions clear, it's actually me who think's they're crap; I was interested in what others thought. In my opinion the first three and indeed this style are utter rubbish, but as Brett says, seem to be increasingly prevalent in motorsport publications...

We spend years learning how to get sharp action shots and we we master that we then intentionally blurr them. :D :D :D

Hey Trent, they have bit too much blur to my liking... sorry :(

Not sure if this is possible, but the focus I think should be at the windshield (with the driver) or on the hood, focus on the doors makes not much attention IMHO...

I for one like the first three (much better than the last one). I find most of the tack-sharp motor racing images boring, the obligatory smeared backgrounds don't convey any sense of speed for me.

But those first 3 really have it, IMHO! Especially #1, because of the car's nice look and colours.

Yeah, although AMRS looked better last round! Looks like it's going to be better than the Shannon's Nationals round this weekend though, poor fields in many categories. :(

Was not interested in them at first, BUT I had a second look, and was surprised that the longer I looked the more they started to appeal.
What I did find interesting was the fact that the longer I looked the more the cars appeared to being going backwards!
