Flower macro + different lightingi'm trying to challenge myself, (well strobist is challenging me actually !), to come up with differen takes on common subjects by using different lighting. so, following on from previous flash experiments, this is another where alot of flash comes thru into the front element of the lens, (sb800 positioned to right rear of rose shooting up and towards lens at 45deg allowing the petals to diffuse most of the light), creating a kind of foggy diffusion. it makes it more subtle and the colour more subdued but still accurately records the deed red of the rose but not in the whole image. it's almost translucent where the bulk of the flash hits the image on the right.
i noticed how it makes the contrast between shadows and midtones even in the centre very smooth and seamless leaving no harsh shadows which is quite difficult in a rose macro where there are alot of floded petals. interesting result. i quite like it. any thoughts for improvements ? Rooz - I like this shot and the way you have executed it. Reminds me of a Spanish flamenco

Thats nice. I like the fact that the middle of the rose isn't in the middle of the frame (like a lot of flower macro shots seem to be, especially roses). I think that draws even more attention to the middle of the flower making it an even more predominant focal point. Draws the eye in nicely. Nice shooting.
Great use of the colours of the flower. It works well.
