ok...one if very shallow and one is quite deep. i personally much prefer the shallow one but most people seem to like the ones where the whole subject is in focus. what say the masses ? :?:

i won't bore everyone to death with the lighting etc. not sure too many are interested in the strobist side of macros.

I think if the legs were sharp in the first image I would like it more. As it is the second image is much preferable to me. Good colour and clear definition of the insect. Very Nice.

I like #1 for how it turned out. But a bit more DOF with the legs in the shot won't hurt :P

And personally I feel that the first one is bit oversaturated, maybe just me?

Nope.. its me too... :)

I actually like the second image the best because the composition of it is perfect... the bug takes up just enough room in the frame so as its not overpowering... its nice and sharp too..

funny you should say that...one of the first times i've used colour IIIa, i normally use Ia or II. have just changed it and replaced, much better. thanks. :)

bindii, you're right, the composition is better in the second. the first is "extreme macro" with tubes added aswell. thats actually barely cropped at all. the little sucker was a bee's "you know what" away. it's actually one of my favourite macro shots. i think i'd be alone though. lol

#1 for me, but I'm a sucker for razor-thin DOF.
