Insects at night

Sometimes, it is easiest to take shots of insects at night - they've settled on a twig for the night, and aren't likely to take off ... well, not as likely anyway ;)

These are amazing.

#1 is my favourite, it stands out the most purely for the rich colour in it.

All of the images are wonderfully sharp, and I like that they have heaps of DOF (in macro terms anyway).

I think #2 is the weakest of the set, it's still technically wonderful, but I think the colours of the subject have less impact and for me there is too much twig in it. For me just the moth would have more impact.

Wonderful shots that any bug shooter should aspire to match!

No.1 is stunning. I could look at it all day, the area that the wings attach to is so interesting.

The moth in no.2 has beautiful markings on the under wings, kind of looks like a treasure map or coastal map on parchment. Makes me want to see a higher res picture more closely cropped to the moth.

No.3 isn't quite cropped to centre. the dragonfly wings are to the right a few mm.

Love no.4, it almost looks cheeky.

I think #3 is a marvellous image. All of them have something interesting though. The dragonfly wings in #3 are just wonderful, I would have liked to see more detail in the right wings, if it was possible. Makes me want to go night stalking on the strength of these.
