Wedge Tailed Eagle Chicks

Went up to Broken Hill a few weeks ago to visit Adam and whilst there, a friend of his was very kind and allowed us to go onto his property and take some photos of two wedge tailed eagle chicks in their nest, which were about 5 weeks old. Now seeing two in a nest is one thing but to be able to stand eye to eye is another - the friend had gone to the trouble to put an a frame next to the nest for us so that we could climb up and be at the same height. A truly wonderful experience. Needles to say it was a special moment. Adam will add to this..

Totally awesome Big V,

Wedgies are usually not easy to get close to, I've tried and failed a number of times. It was an amazing occasion you were able to get with Adam.

These are great photos. The second and fourth would be my favourites.

How high off the ground was the nest?

cheers,

André

Radar, this pic shows how the height of the nest. Adam was even luckier as he got to see and photograph them twice and he has some very sharp shots taken with his 200 2.8

Great opportunity Big V. Some great images. I wonder if a hide could be set up to catch the parents arriving at the nest? :)
cheers

Man I would want the hide to make sure the parents didn't rip me apart!

As many have said what an awesome opportunity to get up and close with such a beautiful wild animal.

For me it is shot two.

Marco, after taking pics of the chicks we scouted the area looking for unlikley but possible other nests, we walked to the top of the hill for a better view and found where the parent had obviously been sitting watching the chicks. Small animal skeletons etc, would be cool to set up a hid but it's way to hot here latley to be sitting in a mateshift tent for hours on end.

Cheers
Adam

I bet she was watching you as you were taking photo's too.... being swooped by a wedgie would be a damn site more frightening than a magpie!!!

Congrats on some great shots

To quote Arnie, "I'll be back" Although might try and get up there in the true heat of summer as well.
