I really want one of these images to work...I love these letterboxes, but I'm lacking in idea's and not sure whether I should just reshoot.

Taken with a canon300d and the standard 18-55 lens.

Any ideas/suggestions? Don't be gentle

Neither of these two work for me, but there is potential with the subject.

I would try shooting from a very low (ground) level and crop into a pano shot, loose the road, sky and most of the bush.

maybe a more end on view to show the different shapes and from behind (left hand corner of the first one) back in the bush with the boxes going out of site behind the trees on the right hand side.

Good luck, cheers Rick

I would apply a letter box to the image!
2 black bars - one across the top, one across the bottom ala 16:9 widescreen on a 4:3 TV.

but you would need to include more of the ground and have the letterboxes the centre of frame.

just my idea.
i do like the subject.

to work with what you have, crop them short, and wide.

croping out the road and trees/sky, as they add nothing, and infact, take away.

give it a go, crop just higher than the height of the mail boxes.

You've gone too wide here. The subject is the mailboxes, and the road and surrounds don't add much.

I would go back in the morning or afternoon so the light is more interesting and get much closer to them and try a pano crop as others have suggested. You could also try to shoot from a 45 degree angle up nice and close with a shallow depth of field, so that only the first few boxes are in focus.

In post I would up the saturation and contrast to make the colours and textures of the mailboxes stand out.

Here's a couple of my mailbox shots for ideas.

Suggest that the approach/angle of the second shot, but in landscape, tight on the row, bugger all/no road, 3/4 of the trees and no sky

that would be my "try"

Thanks guys, I will have a go at letterboxing the letterboxes latter today.

If I need to reshoot, it will be a while till I get there again.

nice shots macka. If Handlebars takes on your ideas then he should get a good result.
