He's got a great job! Stand there all day and don't wobble. When are they going to stop that nonsense and send those boys off to war where they can do something useful. :D :D

Sorry Matt.

But that Soldiers Rifle carries real bullets. If you jump over the fence he will use them on you.

Not three hundred meters from where he is standing, the IRA carried out an attack on a column of Horse cavalry and caused fatalities and deaths.

The London bombings last year were within a short walk of where he is standing.

While I worked in London there were bombing at army barracks and at pubs.

The Pomms take their security very seriously. - and rightly so. No Nonsense.

Yes, these guys all take their turn on the front line being shot at.
I suspect they prefer it to standing there being gawped at
and teased all day by tourists.
Good image Apollo_Cat, thanks for sharing. :)
Should there be a second picture on show? I'm getting a red X. :?

Some more info for you.

Years ago those guard boxes were on the outside of the gates. You could go right up to the guardsman and have your photo taken next to them. The guards were under orders to stand at ease and look straight ahead no matter what. People would crack jokes, act the fool, pull silly faces and the guards had to remain stoic at all times. There was even a case of some idiot pissing on the guards leg to make him break stance. In the end the guard boxes were moved inside to there current positions - the tourist situation became untenable and also the IRA moved in.

The horse guards still stood out the front of their barracks mounted on the chargers while I was in London. The horse would stand on your foot if you played up near them.

And I bet you wouldn't make faces at these characters
