Lifestyle portrait for critique

I was recently in the Caribbean and had a couple of opportunities to do some portrait shoots with friends I met on the island (very small island called Grand Turk in the Turks & Caicos chain), and wanted to post this one that I was quite happy with. This was shot on my 30D using my 50mm 1.4 at 1/200sec at f2.0.

The context of the shot was inside a Dominican bar where Chris liked to hang out, and the construction of the bar meant that I had an open doorway close behind him with good light and another doorway directly oppostite that doorway but a bit further away. I particularly love the bored expression on the barmaids face in the background!

If you'd like to see other shots from this shoot you can see them here.

Anyway, love to hear your feedback.

Excellent shot - only thing I would change is including his whole arm so you could see the tattoo - I think it would add to the lifestyle theme.

Lighting is very nice though :D

Lighting is nice, as mentioned the full tat would be nice. I like the contrast from his intense stare to the barmaid who looks bored out of her brain.

Nice moody picture... I'll second the arm advice.
The girl in the background has such a sad expression... almost as if she is disapproving of the picture being taken.

very nice, great lighting. great example of a nice basic lens well utilised.

I'll go against the grain and say cut the arm out. I say this primarily because I'll assume this is the crop from the camera, and if thats all you've got, you cant add back his arm. also, I think the ink will distract from the solid expressions of both subjects.

try a crop from the right, until his shirt.

THanks everyone for commenting.

How's this crop? Does it unbalance the composition?

The crop works fine for me...one thing I would do it it was my image...and it's a lil cheat....clone the black shirt over the arm extreme right of picture.
