Ghosts by the beachMy last post was a stinker. I think these are better.
I like the empty silence of the last one. I like the title (ghosts) of the others.
Really like them a lot.
Nice captures. Only thing I would say is that I think there is too much dark foreground on the third and perhaps a little too much dark in the second. I would have put more of the tree tops in the shot. other than that (he says) very nice. Matt
Yes, I was holding the camera at ground level and pointing up to get as much sillhoette as I could and so I didn't manage to grab the tree tops, but I agree with you. I darkened that one a little to bring attention away from the tree tops and towards the stumps and shape of the lamp, fence, an benchs. I took a few others but they were all crooked. Thanks for the comments all.
DOODA,
very cool pictures. Why are there people in the first photo ? How did you hold the D70 at ground level ? (angle finder ?) Cheers CD
The people are just standing in the photo. They almost look like cardboard cutouts to me. I aimed the camera through the viewfinder, then I simply lowered it to the ground and hoped that I was getting as much shape against the sky as possible. There were two others taken this way that didn't work out, sometimes you have to shoot a couple of times to get it level, and even then, you miss things like the tops of the trees.
thank you, dooda.
I once did a series of photos holding the D70 with extended arms high above my head. I missed a few and got a few. Cheers CD
Yep, Ambleside. I tried for this pic a few days ago and missed it somehow. I tend to pick a location and go back every day until I feel like I've milked it for everything. I spent all of last summer going to Lighthouse Park. Spent most of this week at Ambleside. I like going places where the dog can run around.
I find myself taking photos from that vantage point every so often as well, don't do nearly as well for some reason.
well done mate... all are great shots...
i'd certainly hang the third one on my wall... great conversation piece, and wonderful use of space... cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
One question,
I'm interested in knowing what you think about the people being in the pic. I kind of like it. Makes it surreal and interesting. Does it detract from the shapes of the trees?
Dave,
Excellent images, with beautiful, rich colours. Did you shoot these in raw? Any chance of seducing some extra foreground detail from #3? g.
Gary Stark Nikon, Canon, Bronica .... stuff The people who want English to be the official language of the United States are uncomfortable with their leaders being fluent in it - US Pres. Bartlet
Unfortunatly, I was standing in the middle of a a thruway (actually, it was the end of a road with a round space for cars to turnaround in) and so any detail extracted wouldn't be very welcome I'm afraid. Couldn't take too much time to get set up either as the damn cars kept coming through.
I don't shoot in raw as I have very limited storage capacity unfortunatly, and haven't taken the time to figure out how to get it on PS.
3 Great pics
I like the people in the 1st shot, they are prominate enough to give something to the shot, not so in 2nd. I think to much black in no3, could be cropped ? I think you could sell 1st photo to Steven King to use on a book cover. Rick.
Dooda - as most seem to have said already, the last one is the best.
I really like the colours you've got in all of them, but the simplicity and implied remoteness of that third one make it a keeper. I see it as something you could use on the cover of a publication - has room top and bottom for title and author to go! Keep 'em coming *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
