Sydney at night - First play with a Nikon (D200)

I borrowed Craig's D200 this week to see how I feel about the Nikon before a likely switch (from Pentax). Managed to get a couple of OK shots, but have decided that the plans for a decent (read overly expensive) tripod are now a must. Anyway, my first attempts with a Nikon, SO much to learn about these cameras, and the D300 will be a steep but enjoyable learning curve no doubt.

These are all converted and resized straight out of Camera with PS.

That's an interesting perspective of North Sydney I haven't seen before. The Bradfield/Gore Hill expressway looks so much bigger, more elevated, and more conservative (ie. right turning) than I had perceived it to be from my travels on it.

The second image with the clouds captures the night well. Might need more practice with auto focus in 3  Are you going to make the jump?

#3 is out of focus???? :D Yeah it was an accident, but I like it.

As for the jump, should have the cash in the next few days, so I think I'll be placing the order next week. Been agonising over lens choice for weeks and weeks!

I'd consider one of the kit lenses as a starting point. They're surprisingly sharp, and represent quite good value.

I can see why you'd like #3. I do too.

While on crop factor of x1.5, I'd go a Sigma 30mm 1.4 until you get sick of it!
