Yikes !!

How close to its face did you put your lens? The EXIF data says a 100mm lens and the way I think about it, a 100mm lens would have me way too close.

Good colours though.

Shane my sweet - great shots, but it's not a whip snake

It is actually a green tree snake - they are really variable in colour, but this is, according to Damo, 'The most typical green tree snake I've ever seen - but what a gorgeous snake'

Another thing to remember is whip snakes don't climb and cant' climb as a rule

Congrats on a great shot though

cool Thanks Rel ... we were debating its id and GTS was my guess but i'd never seen a whip snake and this one was really black on top so ...
i need a really good reptile book :lol:

#3 is a fantastic shot! You wouldn't find me within 20m of a snake I couldn't ID (and that is nearly all af them! :shock:

)

you do tend to forget about the dangerous bit when your trying to get a "better shot" but as Rel pointed out its only a Green Tree Snake so we were ... probably... safe ... i suppose ... umm ... err ... are green tree snakes dangerous ??

i really have to get a decent book as its so hard to find info on the net!

Well I can not see any teeth in #3, but sometimes those with the smallest teeth pack the biggest punch... :shock:

But then again as long as you can run faster than whoever is with you... :lol:

I understand Green Tree Snakes are harmless and it takes quite a bit to get them to bite.

I got this info after I found one in the house a couple of years ago. We got him/her out into the garden by gently picking him/her up on the end of a very loooooong piece of timber I had on the veranda. During the extraction process he/she was very calm and docile (just like me).

Before the removal I got the camera out to find the battery was dead, so no photos.

Great shots by the way.

i was going to let it crawl past/over my foot for a pic as it headed towards a tree behind me but thought it might have tried climbing my leg and chickened out :oops:

when standing still it seemed to carry on with its business as if no one was there, it only got a bit antsy when you got in its way :lol:
