tough conditions you had there with the sky. i really like #2. would have been an idea to get some in portrait aspect so you got the sail and the boat all in the shot. the sail makes up such a big part of these sorts of photos its hard to pull it off without the sail or without some sort of unusual angle or solid action.

The conditions were tough the boat I was in was a 20' runabout and the swell was lumpy so the shooting platform was pounding, it was one hand for the boat and camera in the other. It still does beat work.

Not a bad attempt for your first go, I think the first is probably the strongest, good blend of boat + crew. Whilst I agree with rooz that some portrait shots are good, I really enjoy the shots that capture a bit of boat and the emotions and action of the crew.

It is always a challenge shooting in swell, every time I do it I always seem to end up with a lot of pictures of the water, or boats cut in half. It is really a matter of anticipating the next wave.

Mean Machine is actually the same type of yacht i currently sail on (Mumm 36) so nice to look at the situation from a different perspective.
