Rel,

The behaviour shot of the mantis is great. The eye "looks" a little unsharp, but I think that is the nature of insect eyes as I often have that problem even though everything else around it is sharp.

The butterfly is gorgeous. You have nailed the focus and it brings out the texture of the wings.

What lens were you using?

Thanks Andrew - was a real bugger last night - around 40 rare frogs, and it was raining way too hard to take any shots :( But the mantid shot turned out ok :) LOL

Taken with the 105 micro 2.8 (old non vr), Sb800, beercup and cap - slight crop on each :)

beercup and cap
??? What are these?

Nice Mantis shot. It would make a great series on bug vanity with your other mantis shot 'look deep into my eyes'

thanks :)

The 'beercup' is the PJ lightsphere
and the cap is the diffusion cap that clips onto the lightsphere ....

Rel,

I have a clone of the PJ Lightsphere (thanks to Gary and Poon). It is called a "Lambency Flash Diffuser" but is essentially the same thing. I have tried it with macro, but I find my DIY softbox works better.
