I've finally managed to find the time to process my New Years Eve photos. These were all taken from the Garden Island Naval Base (HMAS Kuttabul) - a fantastic spot for the fireworks. This was the first time I've made it to Sydney for NYE fireworks and also my first attempt at fireworks. I'm not overly happy as I consider the bulk of my shots (the first image here is an exception) are way too soft.

Anyways - critique (or should I say FIRE) away...

I like them all. They are nice and sharp and the length of the fireworks is perfect. Number two is the standout for me as I really adore the colours. (Leeds united colours)

They're great shots Peter. I particularly like 2 and 4.

I too tried the fireworks in Hobart. The early ones at 9.30 were as blury as anything. At the midnight ones I used MUp for the first time. Boy it made a difference. I had never bothered with it in the past becuase I thought I had a rock solid platform. It's MUp for me from now one.

I assume you used a cable remote and MUp?

Peter I like number four as you can see all of the explosion. Having never shot fireworks I just have to admire your work. Well done.

John your Mup comment had me searching.

Mup function that is selected by the thumb wheel on the left top where you select this or single / continuous shooting. In this Mup mode the mirror flips up pushing the shutter release once and then the shutter releases on the second push.

So now I understand.

John I didn't use mirror lock up - cable release and manual focus locked on the bridge. Maybe that was my problem.
