I had the pleasure of chasing two of these around the garden yesterday morning, and was hoping they might land on the peach tree so I could shoot them against a green background, however they stuck to the wild oats and never flew higher than about 40cm of the ground.

These four shots are the best of 30 good ones, taken from about 10:30am till 11:30am.

I know there are some serious dust bunnies, but other Crits are more than welcome!

Warren,

All 4 are very good. I prefer the angle of the last 2 over the first 2. Lighting on the first and the last is the best. The second one seem to be overpowered by the harsh lighting. The backgrounds are pretty good, although the highlights are a tad distracting.

I think the last one is my pick of the four.

One of the most difficult subjects to photograph and you nailed it beautifully. I recently spent an hour chasing some of these little suckers with an 80-400mm VR lens hoping to get one in flight. Nearly nailed a keeper but near enough doesn't cut it on this forum. Well done!

Thanks guys,

I am still struggling with DOF, the backgrounds are not quite as blurred as I would have liked, but thats the trade of for more dragonfly in focus.

The first two shots were at ISO 200 f11 1/320 , the second two at f16.

Next to get one flying! :D
