borrowed the 10.5mm fishy from work for a couple of days, so went to the local skate park for a bit of a skate and to take some photos with this awesome lens...i think i might have to buy it

they're all amazing but the 2nd really stands out

I think that shot 2 really shows how well this lens works for these sort of action shots.

no. 4 is my pick of the bunch. Love the use of the fisheye on all them, great work.

i don't know if i'm being too harsh... but this is a crit section afterall.

the lack of (lack of) saturation bugs me -- they look dull and lifeless.

not sure about selective blur. i dont think i like it. i know the 10.5 gives you sweet fuck all dof separation, even at 2.8, but its something you need to live with rather than try and fix in PP (i think). if you want some DOF sep with fisheye, get a hassy or bronny MF haha.

ps. good to see something other than the usual photos that get peddled around here!

I am not a big skater fan, but I reckon these look really good - I too would be interested in how you lit these as the cross-lighting doesn't seem too hard, particularly in 3 & 4, although these could just be exposed for the skater.

The second one is a stand out - the colours give it a steely look to them.

#2 is fantastic! Well done - buy the fisheye!!

You seem to always shoot against the light? This blocks up your skater and robs you of contrast. Is this a style thing that you've chosen to do or is it just the light working against you? Is there a reason why you don't pop a little flash into the image? Your images do have a touch of the dramatic about them but I feel that technically there is more to be had from the situations you photograph.

exposure wise, i just exposed for the scene, and then dodged the skater a lil bit in ps. didnt worry about flash, wasnt the look i wanted out of these, although i did use it for shots that i didnt post here.

only reason im shooting into the sun in two of them was that there were too many people on the other side of the stairs, and was way too busy, it was the best option.

appreciate ur feedback jamesw, as i i know this is your area. selective blur was only an idea, not necessarily to compensate for no dof. and i see where u are coming from in regards to the desaturation. was just another idea i rolled with.

get in close with it hey, like really close. you can get some really unique shots. i have a photo to show you guys, i was in so close that the guy was literally on top of me... i'll post it up later tonight maybe.
