Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread. The Portrait, The Passion & The PlayWell, it's been roughly 15months since I last visited this forum, as I had a degree to finish and a career to start (you lot are a dangerous distraction).
Nevertheless, here are 3 images I would love you to critique. The Portrait This was just a random shot taken at a party. And yes, it was a complete mistake, I dialed in the wrong value on the SB800 and it blew it out. But, I quite like the result. The Passion I love working with the harshness of tungsten stage lighting, especially when contrasting colours are used. From a support act of a gig I did in Katoomba. This young trumpet player not only had chops, but was a lyrically beautiful improviser. The Play Again with stage lighting, but extremely low light, was a challenge and a half. Not sure how well this shot works: Does the black emptiness work? Should I crop? Is the blue light a distraction? This was of a play that I produced (The Real Inspector Hound - Tom Stoppard). Please critique away. - beej
Re: The Portrait, The Passion & The PlayWow, well welcome back and while I like the last on the best, there is something I like about all the images.
Re: The Portrait, The Passion & The PlayI love the last one - including the empty dark space and the light.. I'd be tempted to clone that wooden floor to the bottom left of the image in black though just to even it out..
The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list...
Re: The Portrait, The Passion & The PlayI like the last one, natural looking and lifelike. I'd leave the crop as is

Re: The Portrait, The Passion & The PlayI quite like them all! I hope you didn't blind the poor girl in that first shot!
Re: The Portrait, The Passion & The PlayI'll be different - I prefer the first two! I like the third one as well but the first two draw me in a lot more.
