HDR Elephant

I'm currently in my birth country, South Africa, having a good time, other than some recent threats to our safety (almost had our car stolen. have no idea how the 2010 fifa will happen here)

Anyway, to the photo. It was taken in the Kruger National park about a week ago.

6 exposures were taken of which 3 were used, combined using HDR. Luckily the elephant stood still long enough for my
D300 to take 3 photos (so about half a second :p)

PP is just HDR tweaking and a little cloning to fix what photomatrix did.

I think the HDR came out prety interstingly in this case. I usually dont use HDR much, but thought this was a little different.

I really like this. It is hard to explain why I do, but I do. :D

My only comment would be to perhaps crop a bit from right (and top) to center the elephant more.

I also quite like it. As Patrick says, a tighter crop would suit in this case. Maybe try it in sepia, a bit in the Nick Brandt style

I don't know about this one. I really like the landscape &clouds, but the elephant looks like a cardboard cutout propped in the savannah. It just looks as though it is not part of the scene.

I like the HDR effect (I've been using it a fair bit myself) I kind of like the current crop as I like the elephant not being the complete centre of attention, the clouds and vegetation are just as interesting for me.

I think this really awesome as well. The HDR gives the effect that this is almost an etching.

And I like the current crop as well - like said previously, the background is just as interesting as the elephant itself.

Thanks guys. I tried a tighter crop, but didn't really like it, the whole photo focussed too much on the elephant, and i think that shouldn't be the main and only focus of the photo.

Sepia with HDR i think may look a little strange, but i might as well try it out.

Thought i might as well try somthing a little different. Have some time to kill.

With the center crop, everything fits almost 100% into thirds.

Excellent work.. I like both the first colour and the BW version..

The 3 frames you used where they all different exposure values or just three of the same?? ie 3 frame Bracketed?

The shots taken were taken using BKT on the camera. I didn't get the frames i really wanted (because the exposure was already set on +.7, i think) but the frames i ended up using were:
+1.7
0
-0.7

Monty this is both an interesting and very artistic interpretation of an iconic element of the African savannah. I love it.

That is brilliant. The colour and contrast in the shot make it look almost painted. Nice work. :D

I saw this a few weeks ago when it came up, and really like both the colour and b&w. I found myself remebering it and wanting to see it again. Such amazing stuff- really love it.

Sensational image here, what a composition, angry sky, green grass and...well..grey elephant. Very enjoyable stuff.

this caught my eye straight away - something quite differen to many other HDR treatments. Subject and backgrounds form an interesting composition for me.

I really like the second crop - I can just catch the glint in its eye.

Great stuff!
