Whilst I didn't mind the last Wedgie I posted, I was inclined to have a bit of a play. What do people think?

Like it - took a pic of one of these the other day myself - result is  to say the least when I look at yours. Can I ask what lens and settings you used?

Nice one John,

I like the way you brought out the details in the wings. I would prefer to have seen it on a nice blue sky but it still works nicely on black.

cheers,

André

Gee I thought the ones the other day were great. This one though is better.

The sort of shot that one day i hope to be able to produce.

Hey John - I'm guessing it was done in PS? Try using a bleed or feather on the image when you select - there is a blue halo around the wings that is a bit distracting, and it is still a bit 'stark' around the rest of the bird (ie around the tail). Nice effort though :)

That is a really interesting take on a normal subject as we are so used to seeing these superb birds against a blue or grey sky.. Cool effect and it works well.

John, I find that the black background too strong for this image, but like what you are trying to achieve. I would look at a graduated background or a lighter colour so the bird does not sink into the background and becomes lost, for me it needs more of a contrast difference so your bird stands out....... then you may like the night look, so add a few stars........

EDIT: or an out of focus hills and sky for the background

days gone by....
if a studio shot was boring and shot on 5x4 sheet transparency, and the background was dark, I would sometimes double expose some stars on the background for fun, this only took a few minutes, but you needed 2 5x4 cameras......... my old clients did have a sense of humour, and the odd one got used, so you never know what people will like......
