Took a few shots at the Jetty as a celebration. A celebration? Yep, the first time I've seen the sun in many weeks, and guess what, it's pouring rain again today. That's the north coast for you.

Thanks Chris & Gary, it was blowing a gale so I just stuck the 10-22 lens on my tripod at F18 (or was it F22?) I think, used the self timer and held down the tripod...great light but fair dinkum, it never stops raining. However, we must be thankful for the rain...

I knew someone was going to say that!!!
Actually, this lens is marvellous, does away with the need for a camera body indeed...

Thank you all for the kind comments. I know it's been said so many times, but light is everything in photography, more important than camera bodies, conditions, lens.
For those just starting out in this wonderful hobby/profession/whatever, the last few minutes before the sun slips over the horizon is the time to shoot, if you can.
Ozi.

That first shot would look great as a pano - magical light being reflected off the jetty and water.

Good point, actually with the 10-22mm I haven't needed to think about panos that much, you can fit so much into the frame!

I prefer the light in the first, but I love the perspective in the second.
You say it was blowing a gale but it looks a lot flatter than the day I dived under the jetty.

If you meant the 1st week in January when there were massive swells coming through the harbour, yes, you're right, it definitely was not that bad!

Ozi,
It was 21 September last year. We'd drove from Sydney to Mollaway on the 20th to dive the Solitary Islands. The boat wouldn't take us out on the 21st because it was too rough so we had a whole day to kill. Late in the afternoon we got a bright idea to dive the Jetty. We got there around 4pm, just after high tide (tide was much higher than in your pictures) and the waves were far too large to hit the water from the beach. We ended up going in at the steps half way along - it was actually quite calm there.
http://www.petsforum.com/personal/trevor-jones/Dive200792116Jetty.htmlI reckon it would be an interesting dive with less wind and diving in the middle of the day.

Wonderful pics that bring back memories, my kids caught their first fish(s) from that wharf.
