Different sort of Newcastle 'wetlands' pictures

Here's a few pictures from the weekend, taken between the bad (for the UK anyway) snow storms we've been having.


I added the noise to this one, it was snowing in the distance which gave the misty look to the cranes.


This brute was just pasing through.


Well its a different perspective, but perhaps not different (or good enough!) for the comp.

I like the way you've PPd the first one - it works well. Second one is a little too fisheye for my tastes. All three images look dull (eg second one looks quite overcast) but I'm guessing that's the way it was.

Chris I've noticed this before. You really know your ships, don't you - last time I saw a comment like this from you I figured you read it from the ship, but this time I see nothing. Impressive.

Edit: I think I worked it out - I seem to recal you mentioned in a previous post there's a web site showing what ships are in what ports.

My father was in the Navy and he also had nine brothers who were in the Navy or the Royal Marines. In 1961 I was going into the Naval College at Dartmouth for officer training but changed my mind. I have always been interested in Naval matters but my love of organic chemistry took me in another direction and another story. . .

Sirhc55, the weather in the UK hasn't been that bad. Well down south it hasn't. I just got back from there and was wearing only 2 level of clothing. Which was a T-Shirt plus a jacket. Saw some freaks walking around in T-Shirts down at Southampton though. I think they were trying to be hard.

CC. I like the first pic. Nice and moody. The second one is good but could do with a bit of a curve adjustment to lighten the midtones. The last one doesn't do anything for me but i think it's because i've seen that same angle before.

The bridge in Newcastle, which looks like the Sydney Harbour Bridge but much smaller, was built by the same bloke, after the SHB was completed. Why change a proven design? I bet they're not still paying a toll in Newcastle though

I love all three Charlie. Aircraft are my passion and I can't attest to a great maritime knowledge (such as Chris - who knows where to look for a vessel name! ). but I thought the lighting in Photo 2 was really captivating. Good stuff.

1. i like the grittiness of the first one but i am distracted by the fact that the top of the crane is cropped off

2. again, good stuff. again, i am a little distracted by the bow flag being cropped off, especially when it is almost completely in shot


3. nice shot, but as birddog says it seems a farily standard perspective to me (see glen's avatar).
