A1GP Weekend - the GTs and A1shello,
I've been a bit quiet (read : absent) of late, but I was at the A1GP on the weekend, and while it was a bit unpleasant on the Sunday owing to the rain, I think that it resulted in nicer photo opportunities what with the water spraying so nicely behind the cars. For the GTs I availed myself of a Paddock Pass which gave me an elevated vantagepoint on the roof of the building opposite the grandstand. A bit of a waste of money given how crowded it usually is, but thanks to the rain at this point it was actually quite empty. Anyway, here's probably my best two: A paint job that certainly doesn't enhance the car, in my opinion! For the main event, I spent most of my time in the public areas trying to get a nice panning location. I like this one because from memory it was at 1/60th which was the slowest shutter speed I was game to try: This was from the stands: CNC always appreciated! Pentax istDS+K10D. Re: A1GP Weekend - the GTs and A1sThe last one's a ripper - very well timed to get the signage in that position ...and the spray is something else there!
I'd like to see more room for the car to move into in the first shot, and maybe a closer crop on the second. They're both nicely panned and the shutter speed is good for these shots I think the third shot could also do with a closer crop, and possibly pull back a little on the exposure. All good stuff though *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
Re: A1GP Weekend - the GTs and A1sGreat looking shots. Something a little different with the added rain. And I don't mind the paint job in #2 at all Great colour/angle/panning in #3 also.

Re: A1GP Weekend - the GTs and A1sNice panning in all. My panning is just terrible.
#4 for me, background is great as well. Looks a little underexposed, though. cheers, juice

Re: A1GP Weekend - the GTs and A1sThanks heaps for your comments: I've gone back to the photos and tried to incorporate some of the suggestions. I've posted smaller pictures to save on bandwidth.
For shot #1 there was nothing I could do - that's actually a full size crop! (d'oh!) For shot #2 (which was already a crop on the original) I've gone a bit further now, and I agree it looks better, but I think it might show limitations of imperfect panning (more noticeable at full size): For shot #3 I've played with levels a bit but the highlight is fairly blown in the white segment (in my defence : the white segment is actually white ) The colours look a bit more natural now, I think, which is good. For shot #4 I've also played with levels and I think it is an improvement, the original was too dark. because I had 9Gb in cards I kind of shot with wild abandon on the second day and accordingly I still have over a thousand images to go through even after the extremely crap stuff has been culled! (I've kept everything rated 'mediocre and above' for now!). I now want to look for the most spectacular spray shots and the longest 'rooster tail' I can find! Pentax istDS+K10D. You using Lightroom? I've found it VASTLY improved my cull/keep/fix workflow , especially with large numbers of images. (ie 1200 at the cricket last Saturday, over 1K on Mon/Tues at Eagles community camp.) cheers, juice
