Matt, I really like this but I'd like to see the original (not desaturated). I also think a tighter crop under her chin would work better. Nice available light with a beautiful lens
As I look at it again, I think a full desaturated/mono of this would work better than some desaturation.
Hope this is constructive!

I like the DOF and composition, but I agree with Geoff a little of the bottom might not hurt.

I will dissent and say the crop works fantastically the way it is. The "flaring" to the shoulders gives the head shot a strong foundation to it. The semi-desat works well too.

Matt, the question is do you like it? This person is obviously special to you and as such, if this photograph brings you a smile, then what does it matter what we like. I do like it by the way but if I did not - it would not take anything away from the photo nor reduce its importance to you. When we look through the viewfinder, it is what we see that we find special not what we think others should or could like..

Thanks for the feedback.
I tried a different crop, but feel the shirt/sholders adds to the framing..Just looked funny with out it.
Looking at a BW version I think I like that better also..
Thanks again

That one dominant eye bang smack in the middle of the frame is a favoured device by rembrandt (or was it Da Vinci?). Anyway....it works with your portrait.
