a night out with the earplugs

I took dad & the kids to the drags on Saturday night, dad had never seen top fuel drags before, he's hooked now though.

Awesome race meet it was. I hope you took them to the pits to see some TF cars warm-up? Without a doubt, one of favourite things in life is standing next to a fuel car when they're warming-up and my ears nearly bleeding when they stab the throttle! I'm 25, but have the hearing of a 60-year-old I reckon..

Nice set of pics too. I see we both use a D70/70-200 combo... Good choice

#1 is good. Both cars in frame and in flight, with a touch of panning. WB is a bit warm and needs a tweak to the blue side. You shot JPG, so less is more.

#2 Brett doin' the thing he does well.

#3 is a pretty sweet pan job! Noticed you shot in Aperture mode and chose f4. If you went for f2.8 you could knock a few stops off the ISO and end up at 640, which I think is a better option, especially on the D70 at night. WB is also much better in this shot, compared with #1.

#4 People on bikes in any motor-sport are just plain nuts! I take my hat off to them..

Anyway, that's my 2c.

Cheers :)

James.

Thanks for your comments James, Nah didn't make it down to the pits. I have the Sigma 70-200 not the VR but still very happy with it. Shot in jpg, cause last time I filled a 2gb card too quick shooting RAW. Ended up being a bit too far from the start line to get the better pics this time. Anyway it was more of a family night out than a photofest if you know what I mean.

#1 I had forgotten to rest WB from earlier
#3 I usually use A mode, I haven't tested f/2.8 in low light, but haven't been happy with quick tests @ 2.8 so far, so I try for 3.5-4.5 to keep things nice & sharp & I had reset WB by then.
