working out in the garden today and came across this wee beast, and I did jump back, Blue Tongue Lizard, only a small one , about 20cm or 8 inchs, lying under some cover but he took off as I got my camera. This is a shot of the lizard digging his way out of his place of rest, but unknown to me till today. He had been pushing the dirt away from the entrance with his head, and I caught him during a rest period. I will place a cover over the area where he is, so he can come and go and I can get on with the garden as he is in my veggie patch

I think I would have jumped back too - he looks mighty pissed at being disturbed.

Good for keeping snails at bay. :) (But they can never eat enough)

Great Blue Tongue.

Our dogs once cornered a large one (40 plus cm) in the backyard and my daughter became aware of what was going on and rescued it.
I believe the lizard was hissing and may have bitten our toy poodle on the cheek and anyway the poodle had a bit of a wound and infection shortly after
that incident. Beautiful lizard - we took it up to the nature reserve and released it. All was good.

Cheers,
