The following shot was taken on New Years Eve from my balcony in Neutral Bay - the fireworks would been a couple of kilometres away. Shot at f/8 0.6 secs at 200mm on the D70. There has been no PP on the original RAW image other than to resize and save as a jpeg (it’s Adobe RGB1998 or II).
Basically I want to get impressions of the quality of the shot from forum members and then I will say what lens it was

Hard to judge on that photo Chris, no straight lines and a lot seemed to happen in that .6 sec, judging by trails left etc
Someone with more knowledge may have a better guess

Chris,
Nothing altogether too sharp here, probably due mostly to the subject movement.

Chris having shot fireworks regularly let me first of all say that the shots are not too bad at all. Secondly I need to ask whether or not there has been any cropping?

This lens is not in the class of Nikon 70-200 by a long shot. But, in saying that, I was quite please considering the distance and the exposure. With a little PP including USM it is very acceptable. Plus it was a couple of k’s away.
The lens is: the Sigma 55-200mm DC - as soon as I can afford the 70-200VR, and it is available again, this lens will be replaced.
