a shot from me, it's been a while

hi all,

i feel a little selfish coming on here and posting an image after a reasonably extended period between drinks here... i can't remember the last time i came on and had a good look around... which is weird because i usually frequent this board quite intensely.

anyway here is a shot from me. it's for this fella's interview, I shot it like this to really get across the fact that he is from the country. shady backyard setup complete with random graffiti and writing on it, a big shed, and some gum trees. it might have been cooler if we could have got a cow or something to stand in the background... but he doesn't have any cows.

i can't really tell if the horizon is crooked. it looks like the horizontal for the ramp is straight, but the trees and horizon look off. i must have judged the horizon with the ramp instead of the actual horizon when i shot it. i dont know if this takes away from the shot, i'm sure you guys will tell me.

apart from that his black shirt kind of blurs with the background, and you can't see his face from this angle, but neither bother me excessively. there is a shadow on the far left from my flash which i'll need to crop.

anyway, here it is:

The first thing I noticed was the crooked horizon... then I went back and read your post... (sorry)... its easily straightened though... anyways.. apart from that I like the shot.. it as you said shows him in his environment.. :)

If you straighten the horizon the shed will look like it is falling over. It looks like you shot it with a wa (10.5) so the strange lines will a distortion of the lens, I think. As far as the comp goes, I would have liked it better if you had of been able to alter your position to get the rider against the blue sky but still show the trees etc in the image. If you had shot from the other side of the ramp you would have been able to get his face in also. :)

It wasn't shot with my 10.5, sorry the editor I used to resize must have killed that stuff off the exif.

I shot this with my 18-70 at 18mm. I'm not sure whats going on with the horizon, because your right, if i correct for the horizon the foreground is going to look all retarded.

I agree with your comments regarding the sky, although I did like this angle as it makes the trick look clicked!

Thanks for your comments.
