On our way to Bundeena yesterday morning, this came through Sydenham station... a pity about the shadow on the engine tho.

edit: because I replaced the original picture in picasa, this post is showing the Sepia. I've re-linked to the colour version, however might take a while to re-cache

Nice capture. you may want to emphasise the train and deemphasise the roof supports on the left side. Agree with you re: shadow although with alot of work that could be PP'd out. Wonder whether whether it would add to the atmosphere if you could add in some more smoke perhaps...

I like it Justin. Love the photos you just find by chance.

A few specific comments- the photo looks a little 'busy' to me. I eyes get distracted from the train. Maybe you can clone out the light in the top right hand corner and some of the modern items at odds with the time period of the train (like the loudspeakers and the air-conditioner).

That is of course if you don't consider this cheating too much.(I often wonder when a photo moves from an accurate portrayal of an event to a work of fiction...). Do you have a photo philosophy section in the forums? :)

I'll have to get into photoshop and work on that smoke, I am sure there is a lot in there, unfortunately I still haven't got my machine set up properly.

I like the posts on the left, to me it balances the picture, the steam train is not the whole thing. However the guards light, I tried to crop it out but that was about the best i could get.

However... if you just apply a sepia tone... a small re-crop.... a lot of distractions disappear!

Agreed- I love the sepia treatment on this photo. It really focuses my eyes back on the train. Great work!

Nice shot, and I agree with the Sepia hit, very fitting.

Yeah i really like this shot too. I agree with the smoke suggestions too. I think that would make the shot that much better. It's really nice though. Great job!

Lovely image and the sepia adds that nostalgia of a bygone era. Well done!
