Hi guys,
It's Canberra day here  (looooong weekend 10/03/2008). I heard there was gonna be a big firework showcase in Commonwealth park tonight. So I dropped my research work, took my gears across the lake and camped for nearly one and a half hour  .
The firework was late. It was supposed to be on at 9:00PM sharp yet it didn't come up until 9:30PM.
The firework was short. It was on for only 5 minutes! That's it! I shot of totally 20 photos, three quarters of them didn't have much fire in it. That left me off with about 5 photos. Here are the best 2  (Click for larger versions).

My gear: Nikon D40 with remote ML-L3, 18-200 AF-S VR off, Bulb setting, RAW file, etc. :D
The good news is that they will have Skyfire firework show this Saturday 15/03/2008. I really hope to have much better shots than these. Until then, enjoy!

Considering you only had such a short period to take shots I think you've got some cracking images... (pardon the pun!)... pefect exposure! :)

Very nice images, especially #2 and even better when viewed larger.

Love the 2nd on esp with the clouds at the background!
Wondering if getting the fireworks' reflections on the water as well (if wide enough) would give a diff perspective.
I might try that if i have the chance!

Thanks for sharing the pics

I'm a bit bummed I'm going to miss skyfire this saturday. I have a football camp on and i can't make it. It would have been the first time i could get to it too. I hope we get some photos posted here so i can see what i missed :(

Going to give it a try...will post the results sometime next week (if they are worth posting).

I've found a few tips here that I will be trying out:

Is there any need to remove a UV filter from my lens before taking photos at night?
