The mighty Murray River

That's NSW on the left and Victoria on the right, which is where we were camping. This spot is about 2 hours driving away from the nearest tar road, which is the Alpine way we left behind at Tom Groggin camping area, about 30 mins or so from Thredbo. A good 4WD is needed to get there, and getting out in the rain would be - a challenge.

Shot with the D300 and 17-35 on tripod, that was sitting in the water. As was I in my waders after fishing all afternoon. This is straight from the camera, EXIF intact. Still trying to pick the best from the series of shots I took.

Cheers.

Lovely image and very unique. I like the dark colours, the depth of field, and how there is movement in the water. I hope your time over there was as good as the image you are showing us.

Thanks. I was happy with the DOF and movement I got, but was worried it was a tad dark. I also wasn't sure if the top part of the shot with the trees added anything.

Always nice to get some feedback.

I think it does show a perspective and indicates it is a river. I still think you did well and brave to get inside the water with your equipment. I'd be too scare!

I'll admit I was pretty nervous. I'd actually fallen in the River the previous day about 100m upstream walking back from fishing. Sometimes you stand on a rock and as it takes your weight it shifts or turns out to be one of the few slippery ones. Believe me I walked S L O W L Y when I had the camera with me, and that water was only about shin deep!

in my opinion the pic look's good, nobody's asked the question, how was the fishing :?

Reasonable. :D

In this spot it took as a day or two to figure out where they were hiding, the first couple of sessions yielded nothing. Fish were all very small, but that's not unusual in small water a long way from dams or lakes. Also spent a few days down near Geehi where the fishing was well under previous years as the river was down 2-3 feet, but still fish every day.

Trout on fly is very addictive!

Nice shot. I really like how dark it is. It seems to have a lot more going on in the picture the more you look at it. Very nice.
