Offroad V8 buggies

A few friends headed out to Beverley on Saturday for a go in these buggies. They're the real deal off road racing buggies, lots of very nice bits and pieces in there for the automotively minded amongst us. It's the first time I've really tried motorsport photography so any pointers are much appreciated. It would have been nice to get a better spot than where I was but like all of these types of events there's only so many places you're allowed to stand.

Nice pics, one bit of critisism i can offer is to try make the crops work so that the carshave room in the frame to the direction theyre traveling instead of behind them if that makes sense?? makes the shots more dynamic imo.

I'm a fan of negative space, but I think these could do with significant cropping to bring the focus more onto the vehicles. And as adame said, giving the vehicles space to move into really helps.

My advise would be get closer so you dont need to crop so hard

Adame, yeah I know what you're talking about. Unfortunately that was one of the things that I wasn't talking about when I was taking the pics so it didn't quite work out that way. I usually do it when I'm taking set pictures of cars though. Definitely effective and it seems to balance out car pictures better.

Mickeyjuice, if you like it, feel free to crop them about to do what you think looks right. I like to see what other people are thinking when they're looking at my pics.

Atky, I would have like to have been closer or have a longer lens but unfortunately that was as close as i was allowed to get and i've only got a 17-85. No joy there!

I think you did good considering the limitations with your lens and position.

I say save some pennies and buy a longer lens, you will love it! 200mm will do the job, and it doesn't have to be a $2000 lens either, whatever you can manage..

thanks phepsi. i'm still deciding what lens i need next. i'm leaning more towards a 10-22 or something similar at the moment because that'd be more useful for the majority of what i shoot. the 200ish will have to wait a while yet. i think i'll just have to be a bit sneaky with my positioning next time i think.

Yeah sounds logical. If you don't need a longer lens just yet, then best to buy what you will actually use and need.
