Band @ The Hopetoun

Well, I decided to give the band stuff another go..

Last week I asked them (Tim) to use any colours but RED for their lighting, and I am grateful, as I think it helped me.

And once again my D70 was at it's limits, but I'm a little surprised at how well it coped.. (can't even imagine what a D3/D300 is capable of!)

I was switching between 'Spot' and 'Centre Weight' metering. Spot was a little confusing I must admit and it will take me some getting used to I reckon...

Anyway, honest critiques are what i'm after. :)

Thanks.

James.

Maaaaate!!!

These are really good, I like the B&W conversions. I hope the band are happy with them. You keep going down this road, you won't be trackside anymore.....

Nice work.

:)

Cheers lads.

Was a fun night. Bit out of the comfort zone though.. They didn't have chairs this time, so I had to go up-front to snap. An 85mm would have been perfect I suspect, the 70-200 was overkill in terms of size and tired arms..

Dunno Alan...Love my motor-sport! :) Although it's only on once a month for the drags, so maybe this can fill the spare days..?

Nice work!

I'm in Newtown - I'd be keen to join you on a band shoot, if it isn't too daunting for the band. I've done a few with my D200 and it's quite a challenge - your shots are very clear. Were you using flash?

Thanks mate.. Not sure when i'm shooting next, but i'll keep ya updated.. :)

I didn't use flash during the night. The lighting wasn't too bad actually, probably could've dropped the ISO to 1000 for some members, but chose not to, and just stuck with shutter adjustments..

Cheers :)

My fave shot is actually #3. This is the same as above but with the yellow desaturated a bit:

Got heaps more, so I'll post a couple later to see what y'all reckon..
