Hi guys

First post so I would like to say HELLO to everyone.
Picked up a D300 and some goodies not long ago and Melbourne was my first major motorsport event with it. Previously was in the PENTAX camp but needed to upgrade as I like my fps and I couldn`t justify looking for lens` on ebay anymore.

The first five are taken with the D300 and the rest with the K10D.

Welcome champ, nice selection of pics on your Flickr. D300 sounds like a dream, can't wait to get my grubby little hands on one! :)

James.

Just wondering did you shoot with auto WB?

The color seems a little off in some photos (the track seems a little blue) but spot on in others.

Yeah, I was shooting with Auto WB.
All my shots are spread out over the 3 days of practise, qualifying and race day so I think that`s where the inconsistencies are from.
I`m still coming to grips with D300, too many settings but I`m slowly finding what works for me.
I must admit I left the Vivid setting on from the night before so the colours are a bit  lol
I`ve got heaps more shots, just gotta find the time to process them a little, usually just a crop and level adjstments. A little pulling back on the saturation help too.

Chris

The only place without a fence is either in the stands up high(depending which one) or the gaps for the marshals and safety vehicles.
My other shots are worse, if it wasn`t for the 1.7 TC I think they would all be like that.

What I found was that if you are the same distance from the fence as your subject then hello grid lines!
I tried to find as close a spot to the fence and the subject further than I was.
Shooting through fences is new to me with the D300 and the 70-200 VR. Lucky I didn`t tell then at the gates about the TC giving me about 510mm to use.
Yep. I got asked a few times, including while I was shooting, `how big is that lens`....only 200mm buddy.

I will be getting a TC (not sure how well they work with my D40 but hey, will soon find out lol) but i think its a must to get past these silly lense rules at events!!! (only allowed 70mm last night at Jack Johnson  but it wasnt a bad thing as my battery died after 4 shots lol)

i have my images on Facebook so they are small and pants lol . will upload the better ones nextweek in a new thread
