Well it's a lighting test and a self portrait in one - needed a photo of myself for an article to submit, so what better way than to experiment with lighting as well :)

Excuse the subject matter

For those interested, below is the lighting diagram - nothing too spiffy.

If you have any other questions, let me know and i'll try my best to answer them.

Incidentally, didn't do it for this image, but found out I can trigger a flash via ttl and another via pc-sync cord to get some great 3 light effects happening :D Tis a great night!

needs a hair light or a reflector up there.

Well balanced light and good portrait.

I like the image. The lighting is dramatic and you've arranged a nice self portrait.

I wayne, I think russell (rflower) was asking if he could do this with an SB800 and a metz oldie.

perhaps you can elaborate on your pc synch connection etc?

yup just replied to him Bruce....also emailed you photos from the workshop

GK - Agree need the rim light, I just need another Sb800 now or another Nikon flash that runs in dumb slave mode. Either that or just a bunch of Pocket Wizards :)

This is a great self portrait.
Go for the pocket wizards or a cheap copy. Then you can use any old flash.

Thanks Colin.

I have the ebay triggers which don't really fire all the time but will give it another go.

I do like the concept and composition. The lighting concept is good, but I find uneven lighting on the face, particularly on the cheeks to be a bit of a destraction. I would also like to see more light around the neck area as it looks a bit like the head is separated from the body by the darkness.

Cheers
Alex
