Magpie at Broken Hill

We have just returned from a holiday to the NSW and South Aust outback, i took this pic after the sun had just gone down, at Broken Hill whilst we were viewing the Rock carvings that are located nearby

It may be my monitor but I may be able to make out brush strokes of a mask? Otherwise nice ...perhaps a bit more detail on the bird would be even better

Nice concept, but I have a problem with the direction the Maggie is facing in relation to the rest of the frame - as he's facing the outside, that's where I am drawn. I think this could have been improved by framing the Magpie on the other side of the pic, facing inwards - this would then draw my attention to the scene in the background, rather than looking solely at the bird.

I think I can also see the masking area around the Magpie, so this needs a bit more subtle work.

Again, nice concept, and (almost) well done Looking forward to seeing some more shots from this fantastic area though - don't hold back

Thank you for the comments everyone,there were no masks or other processes used in this pic, it was taken @ 1/6 of a sec at f 13 (tripod) and the bird moved ever so slightly which is the reason it looks a little odd, i processed it in Nikon NX , i took quite a few of the bird and this was the only one i could salvage as it moved too much in the others.

very well exposed image but further to what Sheepie said it is not only the magpie facing out of the image but the rocks it is sitting on creates a leading line that leads straight out the left side of the image.

Watch your leading lines when composing your images

It's good to see soemthing posted from out my neck of the woods, the maggies at the sculptures are pretty much there every night at sundown as they have learnt that theres almost always someone there with wine and nibblies.
I have an image of the very same birds in our local tourism mag the accessable outback you probably got a copy from the visitor information center if you went

Yes Adam i did pick up a copy of the booklet, very nice indeed, we found your hometown a great place to stay and the whole area rich in photographic subjects and will return again on our way to Wilpena Pound in the future, the area the Magpies are was very rewarding to shoot we stayed until after the sun had gone down and got some interesting shots,there was a camera club group from gippsland there !!!and many other people, as we were away for 14 days and there were two of us shooting 12mp cameras like mad we have hundreds of images to process and will be posting more soon.
