Hand painted look?

Not sure if this works, but with these Steamfest shots below I was trying to emulate the old hand painted colour over black and white look. I'd be interested in feedback on these.

My father would have been proud of these Peter. He was a photographic hand painter way back when

Peter,

The second one is my favourite. The only thing that makes it not look like it was hand painted is how colourful the roofs of the houses are. I don't think a hand painter would have gone to that much trouble.

Peter,

The first and last are my favourites. They came out beautifully. I love the perspective and treatment.

Well done!
Alex

The hand painted look has been applied subtly Peter and enhance the images you have presented. I like #1 but in a way I can't work out whether the gantry distracts more than it enhances the scene and the context. I'm left wondering how different the image would look if the rail gantry weren't there bisecting the house in the distance. Perfect world angle i guess. Like what you have done either way :)

Thanks for the feedback one and all. I think I need to play with this technique a little more, but I think I've ALMOST got it down pat.

Wonder no more. Below with no house, less wires and no happy snappers on the road thanks to a little help from the clone tool

Love them... Might be a good idea to clone out the bright spot in the foreground from your edited picture
