of course your gonna get pictures of frogs and water droplets....(well the frog was when the rain was further north and not during june, but... :? )
The frog is an Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog, this guy (fresh from the tadpole nest in the swamp) is only about the size of your fingernail!

#1 makes curious

#2 is very nice, but I'd like more frog too - crop it!

How big is the frog actually?

Cheers,
Peter

As mentioned in the first post, about the size of your fingernail.

I'd like to see better sharpness in the second. What lens and aperture were you using for this shot?

lens was my cheap secondhand nikon 55mm f/2.8 with a BIG blob of dust inside and a scratch on the rear element
this picture was handheld - f4 @ 1/125 with iso 800.
(all exif data should still be embedded)

A portrait style crop gets more frog!

thankyou for comments...

Is this the Micro, or just a bog 55? We have a very old (pre-Ai) and well battered Micro, and it is a very sharp lens.

Regardless of the dust and scratch, your lens should be quite capable, but you're just not yet in its sweet spot. Try shooting a few plants at f/5.6 through f/11, and see what you can come up with. I'm guessing f/6.3 will be magic.

And be careful that you don't confuse the greater DoF you'll see at those apertures with greater sharpness. The greater DoF should be obvious; look for greater levels of detail within the elements included in the image. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with what this lens is capable of.

And now we can see how shallow the DoF is. :) Look at Kermit's eye.

Then look at his nose.

micro with a missing manual focus ring which means I can really only use AF, what I have done (and still do) is just set the focus then move forward/backs to get what I want in focus...time consuming yes..

I will definitely keep that in mind next time - I have usually kept the f low due to light and to get the shutter speed up.

roger that. I will definitely have another go soon and see what the results are, thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.....

now to find a cooperative frog.... :P
