today I was practising my light painting with me new softbox, oh such a lovely light... this is nearly straight from the camera, one soft strip camera left for accent and background light, and a 5 foot octobox directly above camera.

how did we dooo??? :D

Nice work Oz, if that's straight from the camera you look like you are going to become very productive and throw Photoshop away :D

thanks Glen, exactly what I thought when I saw the results, less time in Photoshop makes for a happy me.

Woah... This is really impressive! Even more impressive that there's limited Photoshop used! Looks like you're onto somewhat of a winner here!

The only think i don't like about this photo is the strip of white on her forehead. It looks like a black and white monobrow to me. Other then that, wow.

thanks for the feedback, its invaluable.

I hadnt noticed the white, but see it now you point it out. My aim was to get the best results in the camera, so I guess that would be something I could have fixed with make up, or afterwards in Photoshop.

Bruce the lights obviously aren't warm enough, I can see goosebumps on the models skin :D

A very small matter which is not noticeable because we are focussed on her back but probably worth having her suck her stomach in, it looks a little like a belly

I like the texture the goosebumps add :)

agree on the stomach, however this was actually a test shot gone right, so was thinking to just burn that area in the print.

Very Very nice Oz. The photo's pretty good too!
Getting those lights right is not as easy as it may seem. Congratulations.

Well done Bruce - how are those new backdrops working for you?

this was the first time using the new backdrop holders, so nice to just pull the chain to wind up the paper, and using autopoles leaves less light stands to trip on. these shots were using the neutral (18%) grey seamless paper, and its much darker than using the white paper.

Bruce, I actually like the goosebumps too, make the image seem as if it is real person rather than an image which has been PS within an inch of its life

Hey Bruce...what were you settings on that last one :)

Bruce,

I like the subtlety of the lighting in the second one. The tonal range that you've achieved here ... with just enough light lighting up her belly - is excellent.

Well done.

hi dan, the heater was set to about 20 degrees, but the thermostat is upstairs, so it must have been a little colder in the studio :D

oh, and iso 100, f11, 1/200th.

thanks Gary, appreciate the feedback.

this was my first time shooting with some new gear, and the second shot in this thread, the back shot, was a test shot. the set up was a 40x150cm softbox, with a eggcrate/grid/honeycomb on the front, so the lighting was very soft but very directional, a very specific light characteristic. the position of the light, was nearly parallel to Sarah's hips, maybe 30 degrees off. distance to subject is my usual favourite, being the diagonal length of the front of a soft box.

the bounced light on the stomach was unplanned but works, being from the white chair Sarah was leaning on.
